THE VISION
The concept for the Ovie Brume Library and resource centre was developed in 2003 to meet Nigeria’s needs for a well-equipped public library to educate the populace and support the efforts of all who seek to improve themselves through the acquisition of knowledge.
Our goal is to foster development in Nigeria through encouraging and supporting lifetime learning and improvements in the educational system within Nigeria. We aim to provide a fully integrated modern library with particular emphasis placed on services to children, youth and entrepreneurs.
OUR ACTIVITIES TO DATE
The foundation has acquired a piece of land the Maroko – Epe Expressway adjacent to the Lagos Business School; on witch it will construct the Library and Resource Centre and provide a permanent home for the Youth Centre. A design has been developed and we are now in the process of securing the necessary funding to commence the construction of the centre. On a long-term basis, the centre will be supported by Grants and donations from the foundation trustees, well-meaning individuals and both profit and not-for-profit organizations.
PROPOSED SERVICES

REFERENCE LIBRARY
The Library will provide reference and research services on a wide range of subjects, with particular emphasis on business, Technology, Science and Industry, Education and Child and Youth Development and African History and Culture. It will include an audiovisual library with multi-media material Specialised research guides and services will also be available.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP RESOUCE CENTRE
The resource centre will support young entrepreneurs in creating business, by providing access to basic infrastructure and programs that will prepare and support their endeavours. The centre will offer entrepreneurs access to computer facilities, the internet, the library’s business book and video collection, mail boxes for members and training programs and seminars, as provide at the centre or supported by donors.

THE CHILDREN’S ROOM
The goal of the children’s room is to create an atmosphere dedicated to children between the ages of 4 and 12 years old. Here, children will be encouraged to develop an appreciation for books and lifelong learning in order to stimulate creativity, help discover abilities and find role models. The room will maintain a well-developed collection of children’s literature and educational materials. The room will offer programs such as reading and story telling sessions, discovery classes and video sessions.

THE TEACHER’S ROOM
The goal of the teacher’s room is to support primary and secondary school teachers by providing resources to encourage self development, guide teaching approaches, improve output quality and encourage professionalism among teacher.

The teacher’s room will offer:
- Teacher training materials
- Access to the internet
- Access to PCs, printers and equipment to help with school work
- Teachers guides for selected text books
- Self development books
- Sample lesson plans
- Access to subscriptions, magazines and training programs as provided by donors
OTHER SERVICES
Other services that will be offered will include Books Clubs, Reading Groups, Homework Help, Author readings, Films, Talk and Workshops seminars. Patrons can apply to become members and have increased privileges such as ability to borrow material and invitations to programs and events.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- To be a world-class library, a source of literature, information and enrichment and a place of lifelong learning for all
- To support improvements within the Nigerian educational system and to empower schools and institutions in the surrounding area through the sharing of resources and facilities;
- To build an invaluable resource for young entrepreneurs, providing interactive areas of research, meetings and conferences and to enable a platform for exchange between students and professionals alike;
- To provide a flexible, cooperative and efficient public amenity able to host wider community groups and individuals for a broad range of activities and events;
- To act as a symbol of positive, pro-active, non-profit investment in Nigeria’s future which cuts across religious and ethnic divides and inspires a sense of responsibility for the creation of a better tomorrow for the nation.
