WHAT WE DO
The Ovie Brume Youth Foundation was conceived to provide a tangible means of developing young people intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically through participation in a variety of programmes designed to achieve these objectives.
The ultimate goal of the centre is to create a positive, safe environment, at witch young people will have access to a wide range of structured, character building activities, meet appropriate role models, and obtain support and counselling.
At the Ovie Brume Youth Centre, we seek to:

- Promote the acquisition of IT, communication and language skills

- Provide an environment that will support the attainment of these objectives

OUR ACTIVITIES TO DATE
The Ovie Brume Youth Centre was formally commissioned on December 11, 2003 and we opened our doors in January 2004. Since inception, over 300 students from nineteen state schools on Lagos Island have benefited from our programmes.
Currently, the Youth Centre has over 150 registered members, drawn from a range of State Schools in the Victoria Islands and Ikoyi axis, who participated actively in its programmes. Members visit the Centre every day after school to attend Programme Classes and to hang out with their friends. Weekends are reserved for Leadership Development Workshops, and Career and Motivational talks.
The Youth Centre holds at least one public performance a year, where members of the Drama Dance and Music Programmes are given the opportunity to showcase their talents and put to use the skills they have acquired at the centre. Past productions by the Drama Programme include Babafemi Babatope’s “Tearful Laughter”, Dave Taylor’s “A short history of the world” and Ola Rotimi’s “The Gods Are not To Blame”. The Ovie Brume Youth Centre Music Programme has also held concerts and recitals and members of our Dance Programme regularly participate on shows organized by SPAN (Society for the Performance Arts in Nigeria), witch runs the Dance Programme.
Over the summer holidays, we hold a Work attachment Programme for our older members, who spend one month working with participating companies in the Lagos environs. The Programme provides them with the first hand knowledge of the real world of work and helps them determine the particular career path they wish to take. During the summer month, younger members participate in our annual Summer Camp, and activities include practical skill classes such as cookery, baking, bead making and tie-and-dye excursions to places of interest.
AS part of our activities to encourage and develop young people with talent, the youth centre holds an annual writing and art competition; witch is open to Secondary Schools in the Lagos environs. We have held five Art Competitions and four Writing Competitions; in witch over 500 students from approximately 15 Secondary schools in Lagos have participated.
The youth centre will continue to introduce new programmes and modify its existing programmes and facilities; in order to remain relevant and address the challenges faces by the youth of Nigeria.
