CULTURE AND CREATIVITY

What We Do

CULTURE AND CREATIVITY

The Culture and Creativity Programme of the Ovie Brume Foundation is designed to nurture creativity, confidence, cultural awareness, and self-expression among children and young people through engaging artistic, cultural, and experiential learning activities. The programme provides beneficiaries with opportunities to explore their talents, develop practical creative skills, and gain deeper appreciation for culture, heritage, and the arts in ways that support both personal and social development.

Through Dance and Drama, beneficiaries are introduced to the fundamentals of theatre, acting, storytelling, stage performance, voice expression, and creative collaboration. Weekly practical sessions encourage students to express themselves confidently while developing teamwork, discipline, communication, and public speaking skills. The programme has also produced impactful stage performances, including The Girl with the Louding Voice, performed during the International Day of the Girl Child celebration, where beneficiaries demonstrated exceptional creativity, confidence, and stage presence while using theatre as a tool for education and social awareness.

The programme also incorporates Art, Design and Visual Arts classes that expose students to different forms of artistic expression, including drawing, painting, collage, textile design, adire making, leatherwork, and visual communication. Beneficiaries learn about art history, cultural heritage, historical monuments, and the contributions of notable artists and civilizations to creative development. Through practical sessions, interactions with professionals in the creative industry, and educational visits to institutions such as the Yemisi Shyllon Museum and Nike Art Gallery, students gain hands-on exposure that strengthens creativity, critical thinking, cultural appreciation, and artistic skills.

Through the Music Programme, beneficiaries are introduced to both music theory and practical musical training. Students learn foundational concepts such as musical notes, scales, chords, rhythm, song structure, and instrument appreciation while gaining exposure to instruments including the piano and drums. The programme helps develop creativity, coordination, discipline, listening ability, and confidence through interactive music sessions and collaborative learning experiences.

The Summer Camp Programme further enriches the cultural and creative experience by combining education, vocational learning, recreation, and cultural exploration in an engaging environment. Participants are exposed to vocational skills such as bead making, baking, photography, leatherwork, textile design, and makeup artistry while also participating in educational excursions to culturally and historically significant locations including Badagry, Ibadan, and Ijebu-Ode. These experiences help beneficiaries gain practical skills, historical knowledge, cultural awareness, and valuable social development through hands-on and interactive learning.

Overall, the Culture and Creativity Programme uses the arts, culture, and experiential learning as powerful tools for education, self-discovery, confidence building, and personal growth, empowering beneficiaries to become creative, expressive, culturally aware, and socially confident individuals.
