LIVELIHOOD

What We Do

LIVELIHOOD

The Livelihood Programme of the Ovie Brume Foundation is designed to equip children and young people with practical knowledge, digital skills, career exposure, leadership capacity, and personal development opportunities that prepare them for future success and economic independence. Through mentorship, career guidance, skill-building initiatives, and experiential learning, beneficiaries are empowered to make informed decisions about their future while developing the confidence and competence needed to thrive in an evolving world.

A key component of the programme is the ICT and Digital Skills training, which equips beneficiaries with essential computer knowledge, digital literacy, and exposure to emerging technologies. Students are trained in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Google tools, digital platforms, and introductory artificial intelligence concepts, helping them build practical technological skills while broadening their awareness of opportunities within the digital economy and technology-driven industries.

The programme also incorporates Financial Literacy classes that introduce beneficiaries to important concepts such as savings, budgeting, investing, money management, taxes, and financial responsibility. Through simplified and practical learning sessions, students develop healthy financial habits, economic awareness, and the ability to make informed financial decisions that will positively influence their personal and professional lives.

Through the Meet the Professional initiative, beneficiaries are exposed to accomplished professionals from diverse industries and career fields who share their personal journeys, experiences, knowledge, and insights. These interactive sessions serve as a source of inspiration and motivation, helping students broaden their career awareness, explore future possibilities, and aspire towards meaningful professional paths.

The Eco Earth Club of the Ovie Brume Foundation is designed to promote environmental sustainability, agricultural awareness, and responsible living among beneficiaries. Through practical and hands-on activities, students learn the importance of tree planting, environmental conservation, and food cultivation while developing a deeper appreciation for nature and sustainable living.

Members actively participate in planting and nurturing trees as well as cultivating crops such as maize, okra, spinach, pumpkin leaves, yam, pawpaw, and bell peppers. The club helps beneficiaries develop teamwork, responsibility, environmental consciousness, and practical agricultural skills while encouraging healthy and sustainable practices within their communities.

The Passport to Success Internship Programme provides alumni and recent secondary school graduates with valuable hands-on industry experience. Beneficiaries are placed in organizations, companies, and professional environments that align with their career interests and aspirations, allowing them to gain practical workplace exposure, mentorship, employability skills, and professional experience that support their transition into higher education and future careers.

In addition, the programme features leadership clubs and regular pep talks focused on leadership development, communication, time management, self-confidence, personal growth, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and other life-building topics relevant to young people. These sessions create safe and engaging spaces for learning, reflection, mentorship, and character development while helping beneficiaries build positive attitudes and essential life skills.

Overall, the Livelihood Programme empowers beneficiaries with the knowledge, exposure, confidence, and practical tools needed to become self-reliant, skilled, and purpose-driven individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to their communities and society at large.
