In 2017, I stumbled upon a life-changing opportunity through my schoolmates who attended after-school classes at the Ovie Brume Foundation.
What started as a simple curiosity quickly turned into a life-altering journey—the center became my second home, a place where I felt seen, heard, and empowered.
I found joy in Taekwondo, especially Poomsae, and eagerly participated in dance, art, literacy, and ICT programs. But beyond the activities, OBF gave me something much greater—a sense of confidence and self-worth.
One of the turning points in my journey was securing an internship at the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN), where I gained workplace experience and learned professional etiquette. The foundation’s Project No Excuses went even further, sponsoring my education from SS2 to SS3—a gift that changed my life forever.
Before OBF, I was timid, struggling to find my voice. But through mentorship and countless opportunities, I learned to be bold, confident, and expressive. My growth was evident—I won multiple awards, including prizes for Kids for Cleanse, and received thoughtful gifts like a bag and a phone. I was elected as my school’s Laboratory Prefect and even emerged victorious in an online competition called Edulect, where I earned more recognition and rewards.
Today, I am a proud medical student at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, still carrying the lessons and support OBF instilled in me. I no longer shrink in the presence of others—I stand tall, unafraid, and determined. OBF helped me uncover the strength and potential I never knew I had.
To those coming after me, know this: Ovie Brume Foundation can take you places if you stay committed. Don’t let negativity define you. Learn from your mistakes but never let them hold you back. Your story has the power to have a happy ending—but only if you’re willing to write it yourself.
And remember, prayer is key, but hard work is just as important. Strive to create a happy ever after for yourself, not a happy never after.
With gratitude,
Muhammad Fatima
