The Centre offers tailored programmes focused on educational development, health awareness, sports, recreational activities and arts and culture.
With the establishment of the Niger Delta Youth Centre, the Foundation seeks to develop strategies as well as initiate partnerships capable of improving the standard of education in the Niger Delta.

OUR ACTIVITIES

SUMMER CAMP

During the long summer holidays, we offer a summer camp for our members, focused on teaching them lucrative, income generating micro skills that will enable participants support themselves and their families. Offerings include bead making, makeup application classes, photography, baking and ICT classes. Members also have the opportunity to go on excursions and attend developmental workshops including life skills training and career development talks.

BOOKS ON WHEELS

Our Books on Wheels (BOW) programme comprises a mobile reading book club and a spelling club. It is an integrated community literacy enhancement initiative focused on improving literacy levels in public primary schools in the area. BOW seeks to improve the literacy skills of pupils and inculcate a reading culture in them. To date, the project has reached over 800 pupils who have recorded a demonstrable improvement in their literacy skills.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Our Youth Centre is a learning and motivational hub for our members, as we offer a range of structured recreational and development programmes focused on increasing their skills and knowledge and allowing them to discover hidden talents. We offer vocational skills training such as bead making, recreational clubs including chess and scrabble, sports classes as well as regular leadership development workshops and virtual learning sessions.

ICT TRAINING CLASSES

We offer our Youth Centre members ICT training classes to increase their computer literacy and teach them the digital skills necessary for today’s work environment. Members are taught graphics, data processing and how to use a range of software packages. Once our members have reached a certain level of competency, we arrange job placements for them so they can put their skills to good use and further enhance their learning.

SCHOLARSHIPS

We offer full scholarships to academically outstanding pupils from low income homes to attend boarding schools where they can receive a secondary school education that will allow them to reach their full academic potential. Beneficiaries of the scheme have all costs associated with their educational needs met including school fees, books and uniforms. Since inception, the scholarship project has impacted over 143 pupils across 11 public primary schools and currently 29 students are benefiting from the full scholarship.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

We hold community health awareness programmes focused on raising awareness of health issues within the communities of our Youth Centre members. We commemorate United Nations (UN) World Health days including World Cancer Day, World Malaria Day, World Aids Day and Global Handwashing Day. We also mark other important days such as International Day of the Girl Child and Careers Day, as well as offer life skills development talks and workshops.
