The global COVID-19 pandemic is happening at a time when misinformation and fake news is the order of the day. This has made verified facts become less sort after as fake news seems to gain credibility. Misinformation and fake news have caused a great rift, as people tend to believe anything they read on the internet, which males differentiating fake news from verified facts increasingly difficult.
In Nigeria, a rogue wave of misinformation and disinformation have accompanied the Covid-19 virus spread, giving rise to fear and exploiting vulnerabilities of people. While some Nigerians believe that the disease is in existence, some Nigerians simply refuse to believe its existence owning to different claims from social media and various unverified channels from which information is disseminated.
